Anal

Relating to the anus.

Anal birth: A term of Freud's referring to dreams or fantasies in which anal erotism takes the symbolic form of a wish to be reborn through the anus.

Anal-Castration anxiety: The revelation, in the courseof psycho-analysis, that the patient's toilet phobias are actually an expression of castration fear. Such phobias include fear of being flushed away or the fear that a demon will emerge from the bowl and crawl into the patient's anus.

Anal fantasies: Images and dreams of anal intercourse, anal rape, or anal birth. Such fantasies may begin in childhood.

Anal intercourse: Coitus in which the penis is inserted into the partner's anus, usually after lubrication and stretching with the fingers. Anal intercourse is practised by homosexual couples, and sometimes by heterosexual couples. This technique is legally termed sodomy and is outlawed in a number of countries. Also known as: anal coitus, anogenital intercourse; coitus analis; coitus per anum; intercourse per anum.

Analist: A person interested in the anus and/or practising anal intercourse.

Anal itch: A burning, irritated soreness in the anal region, often accompanied and aggravated by diarrhea. Pruritis, the medical term for anal itch, may result from a fungal infection (jock itch), pinworms, moniliasis, and the use of tetracycline antobiotics. It may also be the consequence of physical abrasions associated with anal intercourse.

Anality: A psychological condition in which one's libido is expressed in erotic fantasies and activities are focused on the anus and anal intercourse.

Anal sadism: In psychoanalytic theory, a sadictic form of anal eroticism manifested in aggressiveness and selfishness resulting from punishment received during toilet training.

Anal stimulation: A form of loveplay and eroticism in which the anus is stimulated either lingually in anilingus, or rimming, digitally, or mechanically with a vibrator, dildo, or other means. This may be self-stimulation or engaged with a partner.

Anus: Extremity of the rectum.
