Libido

Sexual urge, desire, or craving.

Dammed-up libido: A term coined by Freud for the inhibition or frustration of the sexual drive by such factors as lack of opportunity for gratification, inability to be sexually aroused or to achieve a climax or unconscious blocks stemming from parental or religious admonitions.

Displaceability of libido: A view that the partial impulses stemming from each four phases of psychosexual development (oral, anal, phallic, genital) can substitute for each other in adult sexual life.

Genital libido: Sexual desire concentrated on the genital organs, including the urge to masturbate and to engage in intercourse.

Oral libido: Sexual desire concentrated on the oral zone.

Organ libido: Erotic response associated with a specific bodily organ.

Summa libido: The highest point, or summit, of erotic pleasure, reached during orgasm. Also known as: acme
