AIDS, or acquired immune deficiency syndrome, is an infection with the human immunodeficiency virus HIV, which damages the body's immune system, leaving it incapable of fighting off infections and cancers. AIDS appears to have originated in Africa, and currently is a worldwide health problem.
Bacterial STDs: Any sexually transmitted disease caused by a bacterium, such as gonorrhea, syphilis, hemophilus vaginalis, nongonococcal urethritis.
Genital herpes: A sexually transmitted disease caused by the herpes genitalis or herpes simplex II virus. Genital herpes is transmitted directly in any intimate sexual contact with open sores or blisters.
Gonorrhea: A common sexually transmitted bacterial infection of the vagina, penis, rectum, throat, or eyes caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Symptoms in males include a greeish or yellow-green penile discharge, anal irritation, painful urination or defecation, and swollen glands, and sore throat. Female symtoms include a vaginal discharge and itching. Symptoms appear 1 to 14 days after contact.
